Recently, corporations volunteered with our corporate challenge week. One business to answer Habitats challenge is Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Inc. The global lodgings giant, based in White Plains, has donated $50,000 and the services of more than 60 staffers - including chairman Barry S. Sternlicht, who joined volunteers on April 9 at a construction site in the county seat.
	"We had to start turning people away because we were getting so much interest from our employees. It's too bad they (Habitat) don't have even more homes to work on," said Dan Gibson, Starwood's senior vice president for corporate affairs.
Starwood, our main sponsor for the Port Chester Home, joins longtime Habitat allies like Chase Manhattan Bank, which has donated cash and volunteers for the past four years.
	"If there is a theme that continues to crop up all over the county, it's businesses saying: 'I've got a vacancy'. If you want to continue growing, you will need to find good people.
Housing for them is a critical component of maintaining a successful economy in Westchester," said Robert H. Rogers, senior vice president and regional manager for Chase's middle-market banking in Westchester and Rockland counties. Chase has donated money to Westchester Habitat - "in the low five figures each year," Rogers said - under a three-year, $1 million national commitment to Habitat that ends this year: "Hopefully it will be renewed and maybe increased a little bit next year." 200 corporations came October 4th, 2001 to Corporate Challenge IV.
